Shihezi University School of Medicine is the predecessor of the PLA first corps health school. On August 1, 1949, the PLA First Field Army liberated Tianshui. The then first corps commander Wang Zhen, also the Minister of Health had initiated the “Pan Shi Zheng schools”, which also included running hospitals side by side. At the time of Tianshui liberation, Minister Ban, along with his Deputy Minister of Health, Wang who was also second by north established the first corps of the Preparatory Committee on Health Schools. This formation helped the people at the workplace to carry out the enrollment form. In the same year, on August 26 the liberation of Lanzhou occurred, within the next two days medical teachers and students were enrolled in medical school in Lanzhou. On September 25, medical school students and teachers conducted an opening ceremony, which was held in Lanzhou City Girls High School Auditorium. This was the day when the School of Health announced the first Corps was formally established. On the day of October 16, 1949, the entire school was ordered to enter Xinjiang. Then the Hami march arrives to Turpan, the Corps indicated two routes into Xinjiang, which was led by the king of the South and by the North. The South Xinjiang Medical Training team was established which consisted of four sub-teams, who walked for 43 days from Turpan to Kashgar. Accompanying by the political commissioner of the North which was led by a three brigade of Soviet military aircraft, switched to Hamiltan of Duddy (Urumqi). This Third Brigade consisted of 360 students with 24 teaching workers and service personals along with health training groups from different regions joined the original logistics headquarters in Xinjiang and established Xinjiang Military Health School. Later in the year, October 1954, it was changed to Production and Construction Corps Health School and again to Corps Medical College in December 1959. Back in February 1966, it was renamed the Medical Corps. In accordance with the instructions given by the Ministry of Education of China, on October 26, 1978, it was officially named Shihezi Medical College. In 1996, the Shihezi Medical College, College of Agriculture, College of Higher School of Economics Corps, Corps of Teachers College together merged to form Shihezi University, wherein Shihezi University, School of Medicine was renamed. China Pharmaceutical University (CPU), originally the National Pharmaceutical School founded in 1936, is China’s first independent school of pharmacy and it has been one of the best universities of pharmacy in China with a wide variety of specialized areas. It is one of the “211 project” key universities affiliated to the Ministry of Education of China. Rank According to the 2008 statistics of the Ministry of Education of China, CPU's Pharmacy discipline ranks No. 1 and Traditional Chinese Pharmacy discipline ranks No. 3 among all Chinese universities. Competitiveness The university spirit is “strict, practical, creative and cooperative.” CPU graduates are devoted to serving the society and enjoy a high reputation from employers and the society. The employment rate tops among the higher institutions in China, about 99.8% for undergraduates, 100% for post-graduates, and 99.33% for vocational school students. The rate fluctuates little to the economic environment. Campus CPU is located in Nanjing, the "ancient capital city of six dynasties" in China and is composed of two campuses including Xuanwumen campus located in downtown Nanjing and Jiangning campus in the southeast outskirt of Nanjing. Faculty Statistics Among the 530 faculty members, 2 are academicians (members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering), and more than 40% have advanced academic titles. So far, the university has undertaken more than 70 research projects financed by the State Key Programs Foundation, and more than 300 research projects financed by the State Natural Sciences Foundation and the State New Drug Research Foundation. There are also fundings from other national, provincial and municipal departments. Many projects have reached the international level and filled the gaps in the country’s pharmaceutical field. Student Statistics At present, CPU has 12,852 full-time students, including 83 international students from more than 40 countries. CPU is the only institution that is authorized by the Ministry of Education to admit full-time pharmacy students, continuing education students and senior visiting scholars from overseas. As a centennial prestigious university, it is located near the city center of Nanjing, to the west of the Purple Mountain and the south of Xuanwu Lake. Southeast University is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in China, whose origin can be traced back to 1902 when it was founded as Sanjiang Normal College. In 2000 Nanjing Railway Medical College (which is listed by WHO), Nanjing College of Communication and Nanjing Geological School were incorporated into Southeast University. Now Southeast University has developed into a comprehensive university, boasting 30 schools or departments with 69 undergraduate disciplines in all. It also has 23 post-doctoral stations, and offers 96 Ph.D. programs and 210 Master's programs; it holds a national leader in architecture, civil engineering, electronics, information technology, energy, power engineering, and transportation technology, etc. Southeast University has the total number of faculty and staff of about 6000, including 2000 professors and associate professors, 10 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academy of Engineering.
