Introduction
The Faculty of Medicine of the International University of the Americas was founded in 1992, being one of the oldest Medical Schools in Costa Rica. The mission of the UIA School of Medicine is to train professionals with a comprehensive approach that responds to the health needs of the region and the country, taking into account psychosocial, anthropological, cultural, ethical and scientific aspects capable of caring for the health and defend life. All this within a framework of freedom, equality, respect and democratic participation in the academic and social fields.
Curriculum
The Study Plan of the Degree in Medicine and Surgery is divided into the following disciplinary areas: Basic, Biomedical, Clinical and Research.

University Rotating Internship: Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics and Community Care.

General objective
Train professionals in Medicine and Surgery with adequate theoretical and practical preparation, which allows them to respond to national and international needs, integrating into the health care system for the search for the prediction, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and the possible subsequent rehabilitation that is required, through study and research processes that allow the promotion of health and the improvement of the quality of life of the population.

- Promote the acquisition of knowledge, skills and ethical attitudes necessary to practice as professionals in the area of medicine and surgery.
- Develop the different skills to be a reference professional in society that covers national and international needs in the different areas of professional action of the career.
- Promote the scientific nature of students by training professionals capable of analyzing the state of public health to integrate into the health care system and contribute to optimizing it.

Program Outcome
The graduate of the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from our University will have the ability to practice their profession in a humanistic, ethical, and scientific sense. He will be able to carry out his work effectively and communicate in an assertive and respectful manner everything concerning his patients.
Most of our graduates are selected to study the specialty and are currently residents of various medical specialties, in addition to finishing the rotating internship they are hired by the CCSS institutions.
