Introduction
The paramedic is the primary advanced medical provider and team leader in the United States for pre-hospital medical care and public safety emergencies.
Paramedics act as the advanced life support provider for Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and regularly works with or as part of law enforcement, fire-rescue, military, and emergency communications to provide public safety services. Paramedics also provide advanced medical care at hospitals, worksites, patient homes and in remote environments.
The purpose of the Lindenwood University Department of Paramedicine is to develop individuals to be qualified, competent, and prepared bachelor's level paramedics. The Bachelor of Science in Paramedicine curriculum is designed so that you select a specialized emphasis or minor that gives you the expertise needed to earn a four-year paramedic degree, be marketable, and a leader in the profession.

As a paramedic, there are a variety of careers where paramedic licensure is an essential or preferred qualification for employment. Employment opportunities for paramedics in a variety of areas, including ambulance, emergency department, flight, and tactical, plus emergency management, public safety, paramedic faculty, and occupational safety.

Curriculum
The Bachelor of Science in paramedicine degree program is designed to develop a bachelor-prepared paramedic that is ready to meet the needs of the profession. Students are eligible for one of two tracks.
Experienced Medic Track – This track is for licensed paramedics who wish to continue their paramedic education at the baccalaureate level. Experienced medics must have a current state paramedic license or National Registry paramedic certification.
Traditional Student Track – This track is for students who have no previous paramedic training and are receiving initial paramedicine education and training in order to be eligible for licensure as a paramedic. Students in this track will complete prerequisite courses during their first years in the program and then apply to the upcoming paramedic cohort by the department-specified deadline. Once accepted into the paramedic cohort, students will follow a prescribed sequence of courses.
Additional non-academic requirements for students participating in paramedicine courses with a clinical component include obtaining and maintaining American Heart Association Healthcare Provider certification, successful completion of a criminal background check, a negative drug screening, and a physical examination indicating the ability to meet the functional job requirements for a paramedic. Students will also be required to show proof of appropriate immunizations.
Experienced Paramedic Track
Requirements
- Current State Paramedic license or National Registry Paramedic.
- Complete university GE Requirements (42 credit hours minimum)
- GE-Math requirement must be MTH 14100 or higher
- GE-Social Science must include PSY 10000 and PHS 20000
- GE-Natural Science with lab preferable biology (BSC) or chemistry (CHM) course
- EMT/Paramedic Licensure Credit (45 credit hours)
