Introduction

As a surgical technologist and surgical assistant, you will be working as an essential member of the surgical team consisting of surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia. You will learn how to provide surgeons with the instruments and equipment necessary to perform surgery, assist the surgeon during the procedure, and provide pre and post-operative care in the office setting.

This three consecutive year program is one of the first bachelor’s degree programs in the country to combine surgical technology, first assistant, and office practice training beyond traditional surgical technology programs. Upon graduation, students receive the Bachelor of Science in Surgical Technology/Surgical Assisting (BSST) degree. Program graduates are eligible to apply for the national certification examination for surgical technology and surgical assisting through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

Applied didactic concepts into the clinical setting, demonstrating critical thinking.

Applied theories of surgical technology to real life scenarios.

Demonstrated knowledge of sterile processing principles and practices.

Obtained student membership in professional organization (s).

Delivered a formal presentation.

Program Goal 4: Students will demonstrate entry-level competency in surgical technology and surgical assisting

Student Learning Outcomes:

Demonstrated entry level clinical competency in operating room and clinical procedures.

Prepared to enter the profession as a certified Surgical Technologist/Surgical Assistant.

Program Goal 5: Graduates will portray leadership skills.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Successfully complete a leadership course.

Served as a volunteer for a college/community event.
