The Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia Program is for RNs who hold a bachelor's degree and wish to become certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs). It is a 27-month, full-time, front-loaded program that includes a clinical anesthesia residency. -

Certified register nurse anesthetists (CRNA) administer approximately 27 million anesthetics to patients in the United States each year. In addition, CRNAs are the sole anesthesia providers in more than two-thirds of all rural hospitals in the United States, affording some 70 million rural Americans access to anesthesia, and they provide a significant amount of the anesthesia in inner cities as well. CRNAs are qualified and permitted by state law or regulations to practice in every state of the nation and are eligible to sit for certification examination as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA). -

The Nursing Anesthesia Program is offered as a DNP Degree. The program is nationally recognized and ranked among the best graduate programs in the nation. The program is noted for its cutting-edge approach and is a leader in integrating high-fidelity simulation into its curriculum. We have been accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Nurse Anesthesia Programs since 1995 and have been instrumental in promoting the role of the nurse anesthetist in modern health care. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the National Certification Examination required to practice as a nurse anesthetist. -

Welcome to the Master of Science in Anesthesia Program The mission of Case Western Reserve University's Master of Science in Anesthesia Program is to train the best anesthetists in the world. Our graduate program immerses students in didactic instruction, simulation, and hands-on clinical training over the course of two years. This rigorous curriculum enables students to work in higher acuity cases, test their skills in emergency situations, and grow increasingly confident in the operating room—which is why nearly 100% of CWRU MSA graduates have job offers before graduation with starting salaries averaging $160,000 a year. An Unparalleled Profession Certified anesthesiologist assistants, or CAAs, are well-respected members of the anesthesia care team, which is comprised of supervising anesthesiologists, anesthetists, nurses and resident physicians-in-training. CAAs work closely with anesthesiologists caring for patients from the preoperative stage through surgery, ending with postoperative recovery. Outside of the operating room, many CWRU MSA alums pursue personal interests and professional goals, such as working as faculty or clinical instructors, advocating for the profession, participating in medical mission trips around the world, and raising families.
